Overview
Your financial institution may not provide your credit limit or interest rate when you connect a credit card account. You can add these details manually to get a more complete view of your credit card usage.
Adding your credit limit allows Quicken to show how much of your available credit you are using. Adding your annual percentage rate (APR) keeps important information about the potential cost of carrying a balance with the account.
Use this information to answer questions such as:
-
How much of my available credit am I using?
-
Which cards are approaching their limits?
-
Which cards have the highest interest rates?
-
Which balance might I want to pay down first?
When to Add Credit Card Details
Add or update your credit card details when:
-
Your credit limit or APR is missing.
-
You want to track your credit usage more accurately.
Why These Details Matter
Credit limit
Your credit limit is the maximum amount you can borrow on the card. Quicken uses this amount to show how much of your available credit you are currently using.
For example, if a card has a $10,000 credit limit and a $2,500 balance, you are using 25% of the available credit.
Monitoring your credit usage can help you identify cards that are approaching their limits. Credit utilization may also be one of the factors used to calculate your credit score.
Annual percentage rate
The annual percentage rate, or APR, represents the interest rate charged when you carry a balance, subject to the terms of your card.
Keeping the APR with the account can help you compare cards and identify balances that may cost more to carry. Your statement may list different APRs for purchases, balance transfers, or cash advances, so use the rate that applies to the type of balance you want to track.
Add a Missing Credit Limit or Interest Rate
You can manually add a credit limit or interest rate only when your financial institution does not provide it. If your bank reports the information, Quicken displays it automatically and you cannot change it.
To add missing credit card details:
-
Select the credit card in your account list.
-
If the interest rate is missing, select Add rate under Interest rate.
-
In the Edit account panel, enter the missing Interest rate, Credit limit, or both. Fields containing information provided by your bank cannot be edited.
-
Select Update to save your changes.
Repeat these steps for any other credit card accounts with missing information.
Review Your Credit Usage
After adding a credit limit, you can review the percentage of available credit you are using. Depending on the account information available, you may also see:
-
Your current balance, including pending transactions
-
Your statement balance
-
Your minimum payment due
-
Your credit limit
-
Your credit usage or utilization
Reviewing these details together gives you a clearer picture of each card and your credit usage across your accounts.
