The Subscriptions tab in Bills & Income lets you track all your recurring subscription payments, such as streaming services, fitness memberships, and software, in one place. You can monitor upcoming renewal dates and review your subscription spending by category.
Getting started
When you open the Subscriptions tab for the first time, Quicken displays a landing page with a Get Started button. Selecting it scans the last 14 months of transactions from your linked accounts to find recurring payees and helps you classify them as bills or subscriptions.
-
Select the Bills & Income tab, then select Subscriptions.
-
Select Get Started. Quicken opens the Track your Bills and Subscriptions automatically dialog. By default, Quicken scans all your linked credit card and checking accounts.
-
To change which accounts are scanned, select the accounts link to open the Select Accounts dialog. Use the Banking, Credit, and All accounts tabs to locate the accounts you want to include. Check or uncheck accounts as needed, then select Ok. Note: Hidden accounts and separate accounts are not selected by default.
-
Select Continue. Quicken scans the selected accounts to identify recurring payees.
-
When the scan is complete, the Review Recurring Payees dialog opens. The list is divided into two sections:
-
New Recurring Payees: recurring payments found in your accounts that are not currently being tracked.
-
Already Tracked as Bills: payees already on your Bills tab that you can reclassify as subscriptions if needed.
For each payee in the list, do the following:
-
Check the checkbox to include the payee, or uncheck it to skip it.
-
Select Bill or Subscription to classify the payee.
-
To review or edit a payee's details before confirming, select the edit icon on that row. You can update the type, name, payment date, frequency, amount, account, and category. Select Ok to return to the list.
Note: Payees classified as Bill appear in the Bills tab. Payees classified as Subscription appear in the Subscriptions tab.
-
-
Select Continue. Quicken sets up your dashboard. When complete, you land on the Subscriptions tab showing all your newly added subscriptions.
Viewing your subscriptions
The Subscriptions tab shows all your tracked subscriptions in a list. Use the search bar at the top to find a subscription by name, category, payment date, account, amount, or frequency. To add a subscription at any time, select + Add Subscription in the upper-right corner.
The Overview panel on the left shows a summary of your subscription activity for the current month.
-
Total subscriptions: the number of active subscriptions and how many charges fall in the current month.
-
Total spending: your average monthly cost, yearly estimate, and the amount that will be charged this month.
-
Subscription categories: a pie chart showing your top 5 subscription spending categories for the current month.
Managing a subscription
To take action on a subscription, select the menu icon ( ⋮ ) on the right side of its row. The following options are available.
Edit
Select Edit to update the subscription's details, such as the amount, frequency, account, or category.
Flag
Selecting Flag marks the subscription with a flag icon on its row so you can identify it at a glance. To filter the list to show only flagged subscriptions, select the flag icon that appears next to Add Subscription.
Track as a bill
Selecting Track as a bill removes the subscription from the Subscriptions tab and moves it to the Bills tab, where it appears alongside your other bills.
Note: This is the reverse of marking a bill as a subscription. When you mark a bill as a subscription (see below), the bill stays in the Bills tab and also appears in Subscriptions. When you track a subscription as a bill, the item moves to Bills only and no longer appears in Subscriptions.
Auto-enter setting
Because subscriptions are typically auto-pay enabled, Quicken automatically enters the transaction into your account register on the payment date. To change this setting for a specific subscription, select Edit from the subscription's menu.
Tracking trial subscriptions
When you add a subscription as a trial, Quicken displays a TRIAL badge on that subscription's row. Below the payment date, Quicken shows how many days remain before the trial ends. For example, Trial ends in 3 days. This is a reminder to take action on your trial before you are charged.
When a trial converts to a paid subscription
When the trial end date passes, the following changes appear on the subscription's row:
-
The TRIAL badge changes to ACTIVE.
-
The trial countdown is replaced with the date the trial ended. For example, Trial ended Feb 5.
Tracking a bill as a subscription
You can mark any existing bill as a subscription using the dropdown in the Bills tab. This does not move the bill. Actions like entering or paying it are still handled in the Bills tab. The bill also appears in the Subscriptions tab so you can track that recurring payment in both places.
