Account information: Updating and upgrading Quicken

Quicken regularly checks for available updates while you use the program. If an update is available, you'll be prompted to install it. You can also check manually at any time by choosing Help > Check for Updates.

Understanding the difference between a version and an upgrade helps clarify what’s changing.

What's the difference between a version and an upgrade?

Version (also called an update)

A version is a numbered release of Quicken that includes bug fixes, improvements, or new features. These updates are released regularly as part of your subscription.

  • Example: Version 62.14, released in April 2025, included improvements to Reports and Tax Planner.

In earlier years, Quicken was released annually as a standalone product (e.g., Quicken 2017). Now, under the subscription model, new versions are released as updates approximately every six to eight weeks.

Upgrade

An upgrade refers to changing from one subscription tier to another.

  • For example, switching from Quicken Deluxe to Quicken Premier gives you access to additional features such as advanced investment tools.

  • You do not need to reinstall Quicken or create a new Quicken ID—your subscription level updates automatically.

  • You can upgrade your plan at any time by visiting Quicken.com.
