Transfer Money Between Accounts

Overview

Move money between your accounts—without leaving Quicken.

Account-to-Account (A2A) transfers let you move funds between your connected checking and savings accounts in one place, so you don’t have to log in to multiple bank websites or apps.

This is especially useful if you manage money across different banks, keep separate accounts for budgeting or business, or want to time transfers alongside upcoming bills and income. Because transfers happen within Quicken, you can see the impact on your balances, cash flow, and spending plan before and after the money moves.

Whether you’re setting aside savings, covering upcoming expenses, or rebalancing funds across accounts, A2A transfers help you stay in control of your money without switching tools.

What Is an Account-to-Account Transfer?

An Account-to-Account (A2A) transfer lets you electronically move money between two of your own checking or savings accounts that are connected in Quicken. You initiate the transfer inside the app, and the funds are sent through the banking network directly — no need to log into separate bank websites or use a third-party payment service.

Why Use Account-to-Account Transfers

Managing your money across multiple accounts — for budgeting, savings goals, or business cash flow — often means toggling between bank portals. A2A transfers eliminate that friction by letting you move funds from within Quicken, alongside the rest of your financial picture. You can see the transfer in context with your spending and account balances, which makes it easier to time moves accurately and avoid overdrafts.

When to Use It

Use Account-to-Account transfers anytime you need to move money between your own accounts and want to track it as part of your overall financial picture.

Common scenarios include:

  • Moving money to cover upcoming bills so you avoid overdrafts

  • Transferring funds into savings or a dedicated account for a goal

  • Shifting money between accounts at different banks without logging into each one

  • Rebalancing cash across personal and business accounts

  • Scheduling or initiating transfers you want to track alongside your transactions

Note: A2A transfers are designed for moving money between your own accounts. They are not used for paying bills, sending money to others, or making purchases.

Before You Begin: One-Time Setup

The first time you use this feature, you'll go through a two-part verification process. This is standard financial security practice and typically only needs to be done once per account.

Step 1: Verify Your Identity

  1. Click the Settings icon (upper-right corner).

  2. Select Transfer Activity.

  3. Click Set Up Transfers.

You'll be asked to confirm:

  • First and last name

  • Home address

  • Date of birth

  • Last four digits of your Social Security Number

This identity check is a regulatory requirement for electronic fund transfers and keeps your accounts protected.

Step 2: Enroll Your Accounts

Once your identity is verified, click Set up accounts. A pop-up will show your connected banks and which accounts are eligible for A2A transfers.

  1. Click the bank that holds the account you want to enroll.

  2. Click the account you want to use.

  3. Enter the routing number and account number for that account.

  4. Click Continue.

Note: To confirm you entered the correct account, Quicken will send two small deposits (each under $1) to that account within one to two business days. You'll need to verify those amounts before the account is activated for transfers. Instructions are below.

Step 3: Confirm the Verification Deposits

Once the small deposits appear in your external bank account, return to Quicken to complete verification:

  1. Click the Settings icon (upper-right corner).

  2. Select Accounts.

  3. Click the three-dot menu to the right of the enrolled account.

  4. Select Verify Account for transfers.

  5. Enter the two deposit amounts — the first in Deposit amount 1, the second in Deposit amount 2.

  6. Click Verify.

Your account is now ready for transfers.

How to Transfer Money

Once your accounts are verified, you can initiate a transfer in two ways.

Option A: From Your Account View

  1. Click into the account you want to transfer from.

  2. Click the Transfer Money button in the upper-right corner.

Option B: From Settings

  1. Click the ⚙️ Settings icon (upper-right corner).

  2. Select Transfer activity.

  3. Go to the Transfer money section on the right side of the screen.

Enter the Transfer Details

Whichever path you choose, you'll arrive at the Transfer funds screen:

  1. Select the source account (where the money comes from).

  2. Select the destination account (where the money is going).

  3. Enter the dollar amount.

  4. Click the blue Review button.

  5. Confirm the details are correct.

  6. Click the blue Submit button.

Note: Transfers typically take up to 2 business days to complete.

How to Cancel a Transfer

You can cancel a transfer only while it shows a Scheduled status. Once it moves to Processing, cancellation is no longer possible.

To cancel a scheduled transfer:

  1. Click the ⚙️ Settings icon (upper-right corner).

  2. Select Transfer activity.

  3. Click the three-dot menu next to the transfer.

  4. Select Cancel (if the option is available).

Limitations to Know

  • Eligible accounts only. Not all connected accounts may qualify for A2A transfers. Eligibility is determined by your bank and the account type (generally checking and savings accounts).

  • Processing time. Transfers are not instant — allow up to 2 business days.

  • Cancellation window is limited. Once a transfer is in Processing status, it cannot be stopped.

  • Your own accounts only. A2A transfers cannot be used to send money to another person's account.

  • Mobile app availability. If you're accessing Quicken on a mobile device and the Transfer Money option isn't visible, check that your app is updated to the latest version. Reach out to support if the feature still isn't available.
