Overview
Some transactions need a second look—maybe you don't recognize a charge, need to find a receipt, or want to discuss an expense with your partner or accountant before filing it away. Flags let you mark transactions with a color of your choosing so you can find them again quickly, without changing how they're categorized.
If you've ever thought, "I'll come back to that later," and then forgotten, flags are built for exactly that situation.
Flags are Visible Reminders
A flag is a personal reminder attached to a transaction. It doesn't affect your reports, categories, budgets, or account balances. It's simply a visual cue that tells you this transaction still needs your attention.
Because you decide what each color means, flags adapt to the way you work. Some people use a single color for every item that needs follow-up. Others create a simple system—for example:

Red: Investigate an unfamiliar charge

Yellow: Ask a partner or accountant

Blue: Finish updating later
There's no right or wrong approach. The system works because the colors have meaning to you.
How to Add a Flag
Once you've decided a transaction needs follow-up, adding a flag takes just a click.

Click the Flag icon next to the transaction.

Select one of the eight available colors:

Red

Orange
-
Yellow
-
Green
-
Blue
-
Violet
-
Brown
-
Black

Tip: If you don't see the Flag column, click the gear icon above the transaction list and enable Flag.
Removing a Flag
Click the flag icon and select None at the bottom of the color picker.
Tip: Remove flags once you've resolved the issue so your flagged transactions remain a useful to-do list instead of a collection of completed tasks.
Finding Your Flagged Transactions
Filtering by flag lets you see only the transactions you marked for follow-up, so you don't have to search through your full transaction list.

Click the Filter funnel icon above the transaction activity.

Select Flags.

Select one or more flag colors.

Click Apply.
Your transaction list updates to show only transactions with the selected flag color or colors.
To return to your full transaction list, click the X on the flag filter shown in the Quick filters area above your transactions.
Tip: You can select more than one color at a time. For example, you might filter for both red and yellow flags to review transactions you need to investigate or discuss with someone.
Flags vs. Tags
It's easy to confuse Flags and Tags, but they serve different purposes.

Flags are temporary visual reminders that help you remember to follow up on a transaction. Once you've resolved the issue, you typically remove the flag.

Tags organize transactions by project, client, property, or other long-term categories. Tags can be used for reporting and tracking over time, while flags do not appear in reports.
If you need to group transactions for reporting, use a Tag. If you simply want a reminder to come back to a transaction later, use a flag.
Note: A transaction can be both Reviewed and Flagged. Marking a transaction as Reviewed means you've confirmed it's accurate. A flag simply reminds you there's still a follow-up action to complete.
Examples
Investigating an Unfamiliar Charge
Sam notices a subscription charge he doesn't recognize. Rather than stopping what he's doing to research it, he flags the transaction red. A few days later, he filters his transactions by red flags, confirms it's an annual renewal he forgot about, and clears the flag.
Confirming the Right Category
Priya isn't sure whether a purchase belongs in Business: Office Supplies or Personal: Shopping. She flags the transaction yellow as a reminder to ask her accountant. Once she confirms the correct category, she updates the transaction and removes the flag.
Verifying a New Transaction Rule
Olivia creates a new transaction rule to automatically categorize payments from one of her regular vendors. Rather than assuming the rule is working correctly, she flags the next few transactions from that vendor green. During her weekly review, she confirms each one was categorized correctly, then clears the flags once she's confident the rule is working as expected.
Monthly Review Together
Alex and Morgan review their finances together once a month. During the month, either person flags transactions they're unsure about. At the end of the month, they filter their flagged transactions, answer their questions together, then clear the flags before finishing their review.
Guidelines for Use

Choose a simple color system you'll remember. For example, use red for transactions to investigate, yellow for questions you need answered, and blue for tasks to finish later.

Use flags for temporary follow-up, not long-term organization. If you need to group transactions for reporting, use Tags instead.

Clear flags once you've completed the follow-up so your flagged transactions remain a reliable action list.
