Settings
The Settings window in Quicken Classic for Mac lets you manage application-wide preferences such as appearance, backup behavior, download settings, and mobile access. These settings are separate from account-specific options.
How to open Settings
From the menu bar, choose Quicken > Settings.
The Quicken Settings window will appear, showing tabs for various global options.
What you can do in Settings
Settings are organized into these tabs:
General
Set appearance options, home currency, feature availability by region, and whether to show the file name in the title bar.
Register
Control how transactions behave in your registers. You can:
Choose how categories and transfers display.
Enable or disable split transaction behavior.
Control decimal input.
Automatically mark reconciled transactions as reviewed.
Set QuickFill and renaming rule behavior.
Sidebar
Customize which balances and account types appear in the sidebar. You can:
Highlight accounts with new or unreviewed activity.
Choose how balances display (e.g., Today’s Balance or Projected Balance).
Show or hide closed, hidden, and separate accounts.
Budgets
Adjust how your budgets appear and behave:
Show or hide cents.
Choose the layout and bar style.
Set how rows and columns highlight in your budget view.
Backup
Manage how local backups are created and saved:
Choose how many backups to keep.
Set your preferred folder.
Enable or disable automatic backup prompts.
You can also enable Quicken's online backup to store your files securely in the cloud.
Security
Set a password to protect your data file. This password is separate from your Quicken ID and applies only to this file.
Connected Services
Manage how your Quicken file connects to the cloud:
Review your Quicken ID and cloud nickname.
Reset cloud data if needed.
Choose how downloaded transactions are processed.
Enable or disable automatic quote updates for investments.
Mobile, Web & Alerts
Control which accounts sync with Quicken Mobile and Web, and manage your alert delivery settings:
Enable or disable sync.
Customize which alerts are sent by email, text, or mobile.
Edit contact information tied to your Quicken ID.
Messages & Offers
Choose what types of messages Quicken sends you:
Research
Promotion
Partners
Informational
You can opt in or out of any combination of message categories.
