Security settings
The Security Settings in Quicken for Mac allow you to add an extra layer of protection to your financial data. As of now, the primary feature available in this section is setting a password.
This is the main section where you can configure security options to safeguard your data within Quicken for Mac.
Set Password
Setting a password ensures that only authorized users can access your financial information. By setting a strong password, you add an extra layer of security that helps protect your financial data from unauthorized access. Keep your password confidential. Do not share it with anyone. Here’s how to go about it:
Tips for a Strong Password
Length: Your password should be at least 8-12 characters long.
Complexity: Use a mix of letters, numbers, and special characters.
Unpredictability: Avoid using easily guessable information like birthdays or names.
Uniqueness: Ensure the password is unique and not used for other accounts or services.
Additional Options
Once you have set a password, you will have additional options:
Allow Touch ID to unlock this file
If you enable this option, you can use Apple's Touch ID fingerprint recognition feature to unlock your Quicken file. This provides a convenient and secure method of access, as only registered fingerprints will be able to open the file.
Allow Apple Watch to unlock this file
By activating this option, you can use your paired Apple Watch to unlock the Quicken file. This feature offers an extra layer of convenience, allowing you to access your file without the need to enter a password manually.
Encrypt this file when closed (This may slow opening and closing files)
If you opt for this security feature, your Quicken file will be encrypted whenever it is closed. While this is a robust method to secure your financial data, it may result in slower opening and closing times for the file.
