General settings

The General tab of Quicken for Mac settings allows you to tailor the application's appearance, home currency, features display, main window view, and file backup settings to your personal needs.

Appearance

In the Appearance subsection, three selectable options control the visual elements of Quicken for Mac:

  • Use system appearance: Quicken will align with your Mac's system-wide appearance setting, whether light or dark.

  • Light: Quicken's interface will change to a lighter, daytime-friendly color scheme, regardless of your Mac's system setting.

  • Dark: Quicken's interface will change to a darker, eye-friendly color scheme for low-light conditions, independent of your Mac's system setting.

Home Currency

The Home Currency setting defaults to the US Dollar but has options for many different currencies. The currency you choose will be the currency used for all transactions. Changing your home currency does not convert previous transactions to the new currency.

Show Features For

In the Show Features For section, you can tailor the software to your region-specific needs. There are three choices: United States, Canada, and Both. Selecting one adjusts the features displayed in the program (such as tax forms) to match the financial norms and regulations of the chosen country. Selecting Both gives you the option of using both Canadian and US financial features.

Main Window

In the Main Window section, there's an option to Show file name in title bar. When this is selected, the name of the current Quicken file appears in the title bar of the application.

File Backup

The File Backup section provides control over your data backup settings:

  • Automatically back up data file when quitting Quicken: When this option is selected, Quicken will automatically create a backup of your data file every time you close the application.

  • Ask to back up data file before backing up: This option is available only if you have selected to Automatically back up data file when quitting Quicken. When this is selected, you will be given the option to back up or not back up your data file when you close Quicken.

In addition to these settings, you can specify how many backups to keep (the default is 5) and select the folder where these backups are stored.

Early Access

The Early Access program allows you to test new features and improvements before they're officially released. Any current Early Access features will be listed below the Early Access opt-in checkbox.
