General settings

The General tab in Quicken Settings lets you control how Quicken looks and behaves at a global level. These options influence the overall appearance of the application, the default currency used in your data, and the regional features shown throughout the product. The selections you make here apply across all files and sessions, helping ensure a consistent and personalized experience every time you open Quicken. Use this screen to match Quicken to your location, display preferences, and financial environment.

Appearance

This section allows you to choose how Quicken appears visually, based on your preferred display mode. These appearance settings affect menus, background colors, list views, and text contrast. You can follow your macOS system appearance or override it with a fixed light or dark theme.

  • Use system appearance – Matches your Mac’s system setting (light or dark mode).

  • Light – Forces Quicken to use a light interface, regardless of macOS settings.

  • Dark – Forces Quicken to use a dark interface, even if macOS is set to light mode.

Home currency

This setting defines the currency in which Quicken tracks and displays account balances, transactions, and reports. You should select the currency most relevant to your primary financial activity. The most common option is US Dollar, but many other international currencies are supported.

Note: Changing this does not convert existing transactions. It only applies to new transactions entered after the change.

Show features for

This setting controls which regional features appear in Quicken. The options available are based on the version of Quicken you purchased. Selecting a region customizes the interface, tax tools, and feature availability to better suit local financial practices.

  • United States

  • Canada (Only available if you purchased the Canadian edition)

  • Both (if applicable)

If you are using the U.S. version of Quicken, Canada will not appear as an option.

Main window

This option gives you additional visibility into which Quicken file you are working in. When enabled, the file name will appear at the top of the application window. This is helpful if you manage more than one data file and want to confirm you're working in the correct one at a glance.

  • Show file name in title bar – When selected, displays the name of your Quicken file in the title bar of the window.

Early access

This section allows you to opt in to Quicken’s Early Access program, which provides preview access to new features and updates before they are publicly released. These features are considered stable but may still change based on user feedback. Early Access is a way to test new functionality and contribute to its development.

To participate:

  • Check the box labeled Try out new Quicken features before they’re released at the bottom of the General settings tab.

Once enabled:

  • A list of active Early Access features appears directly below the checkbox.

  • Each feature includes a label and a short description so you can understand what it does.

  • Features vary between versions. You might see new layout options, report changes, or experimental functionality not yet part of the standard release.

Note: Early Access features may change, be removed, or behave differently in the final release.

To opt out:

  • Uncheck the Early Access checkbox. This removes new preview features going forward, but does not undo changes already implemented in your current version.
