Budgets settings

Use the Budgets tab in Settings to control how your budget appears on screen. You can adjust layout, chart bars, highlighting, and whether values include cents.

These settings affect only how your budget appears. They don’t change your budget data, reports, or printed views.

Open the Budgets settings

To access these options, open Quicken settings and select the Budgets tab.

  1. Choose Quicken > Settings from the menu bar.

  2. Select the Budgets tab.

Show cents

Use Show cents to control whether values include cents.

  • Selected: Displays values to the cent.

  • Cleared: Rounds values to the nearest dollar.

This setting affects only the on-screen display, not calculations.

Layout

Use Layout to control how values appear for each budget category.

  • Side-by-side: Displays budgeted and actual amounts next to each other in the same row for quick comparison.

  • Stacked: Displays values vertically, one above the other, to save space when viewing many categories.

Bar style

Use Bar style to control how bars appear in your budget graph.

  • None: Hides all bars and shows only numeric values.

  • Graph Remaining: Shows how much is left in each category.

  • Graph Actual: Shows actual spending or income.

Highlight

Use Highlight to control how rows, columns, or headers are emphasized in the budget view.

  • None: No highlighting is applied.

  • Headers only: Highlights section headers to separate categories visually.

  • Row and header: Highlights the active row and its section header. This helps you track data across categories.

  • Row and column: Highlights the active row and column. This helps you scan across time periods and categories.

Tips

These suggestions can help you choose the best settings for your workflow.

  • Use Side-by-side layout when you want to compare budgeted and actual amounts quickly.

  • Use Stacked layout when working with many categories or smaller screens.

  • Turn off Bar style if you prefer a cleaner, number-focused view.

  • Use Graph Remaining to focus on how much you have left to spend.

  • Enable Row and column highlighting to follow values across both categories and time periods.

  • Turn off Show cents if you want a simplified view with rounded amounts.
