Delete a memorized payee

You can delete memorized payees you no longer use to keep the Memorized Payee List tidy. Deleting a memorized payee does not affect any register transactions that already used that payee.

Delete a payee manually

  1. Choose the Tools menu > Memorized Payee List.

  2. Use one of the following methods:

    • Delete from the Actions column: Click the trash can icon in the Actions column next to the payee.

    • Delete using the Delete button: Select one or more payees, then click Delete at the bottom of the window.

  3. Click OK to confirm.

Tip: Select multiple payees

  • Hold Ctrl and click each payee to select them individually.

  • Hold Shift to select a range between the first and last payee clicked.

Automatically delete unused payees

You can configure Quicken to automatically delete memorized payees that haven’t been used in a set number of months.

  1. In the Memorized Payee List, click the gear icon next to Auto-delete (ON).

  2. Enter the number of months for inactivity.

  3. Click Run Auto-delete now to apply it immediately.

Only unlocked payees are affected. Past transactions are not changed.

What happens when you delete a payee?

  • The payee is removed from the Memorized Payee List.

  • Existing transactions that used the payee remain unchanged.

  • If the payee was part of a transaction group, it’s also removed from that group.

Want to standardize payee names instead?

If you're trying to clean up cluttered names from downloaded transactions (like Anytown Coffeehouse 005 PLEASANTON 945 vs. Anytown Coffeehouse), consider using renaming rules instead of deleting the payees.
