How do I attach a bill, receipt, or other image to a transaction?

Use transaction attachments to:

  • Organize copies of your checks and receipts for tax or warranty purposes.

  • Store trade confirmations with their related investment transactions.

  • Keep copies of bills or invoices for future reference.

If you use Quicken on your phone or tablet, take a photo of a restaurant bill, for example, and then attach the photo to a Quicken transaction entered on your mobile device. The transaction and the photo are automatically uploaded to your Quicken Cloud data. You can then view it using Quicken on your computer the next time you sync your desktop software.

Each transaction can have unlimited attachments stored in a Quicken data file, and you can view these images only on your desktop software. For accounts you've enabled mobile and alerts, you can also have three attachments stored in the Quicken Cloud for each transaction. If you attach an image to an account you've enabled mobile and alerts, Quicken automatically uploads the first three images to the cloud.

  • Open the account, and select the transaction that you want to add an attachment to.

  • Click the gear icon (gearplain.jpeg ) in the transaction toolbar and choose Attachments.

  • In the Attachments Viewer, click Add to select the source of the attachment that you want to attach:

    • Add file: Use a file saved on your hard drive or other storage medium.

    • Add from scanner: Use a scanner or other digital imaging device

    • Add from clipboard: Add an image you have copied into your clipboard.

  • In the Select Attachment File dialog, select the file to attach, or if you're working with a scanner, select the imaging device to use. You can attach any file. From your attachments, a .bmp, .gif, .ico, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, .pdf, .png, .tif, .tiff or .wmf files can be uploaded to the cloud and be viewed on Quicken mobile, The cloud will store up to three attachments per transaction.

When finished, a preview image of the attachment will appear in the Attachments Viewer.

  • Select Done to close the window. When you close the Attachments Viewer, Quicken adds an attachment icon to the selected transaction. Just click the icon to view the attachment in the Attachments Viewer. The attachment icon (link.png) typically appears in the Date field of the transaction; for an investment transaction list in one-line display mode, it appears in the Attachments column.
