Using Quickfill

QuickFill payees automatically fill in categories, memos, tags, amounts, and transfer accounts for known payees. This topic starts with the exact steps for using QuickFill in the register, then explains how to manage the payee.

Enter a transaction with QuickFill in the register

When you type in the register, Quicken suggests saved details and shows quick actions in a two‑dot menu.

  1. Select the empty Payee field in the account register.

  2. Begin typing a payee name.

    • A dropdown list appears with one or more payees.

    • blue two‑dot icon at the right edge of the row confirms that a rule is available. You must hover over a payee to see the icon,

  3. Press  to see other payees (if any), then press Enter to accept one.

    • This fills the CategoryMemoTagAmount, or Transfer account fields.

  4. If you want to change or remove the payee before saving, select the blue two‑dot icon and choose Edit or Delete.

  5. Review or edit any field and press Enter to save the transaction.

Adjust capitalization of a payee while typing

You can adjust a payees while in the Payee field in your register.

  1. Select the Payee field in the transaction of the payee you want to rename.

  2. Type in the revised name (Capitalization revisions only).

  3. Press Enter.

  4. If a popup appears, confirm that are renaming the Payee.

The Payee name is now changed.

View the memorized payee list

The memorized payee list stores every QuickFill payee.

  1. Select Tools > Memorized Payee List.

  2. Use the Memorized payee list tab to scroll or search for payees.

  3. Select the Renaming rules tab to review name‑change rules.

Use the two‑dot action menu

Each row in the list has a two‑dot icon. Select it for quick actions:

  • Edit opens the Memorized Payee

  • Delete removes the Memorized Payee and its details.

  • Lock Payee prevents any edits to the Memorized Payee.

You can also right‑click a row to see the same choices.

Edit a QuickFill rule

  1. In the Quickfill list, select the two‑dot icon for a payee and choose Edit.

  2. In Edit Memorized dialog, select or clear: Save category, memo, tag, amount, or transfer account.

  3. Check Lock rule to prevent changes if you never want Quicken to update this rule automatically.

  4. Select OK to save, Delete rule to remove it, or Cancel to exit.

Delete a Memorized Payee or a rule

  • Delete QuickFill rule: In the QuickFill Rule window, select Delete rule. Quicken confirms the action and keeps existing transactions unchanged.

  • Delete memorized payee: In the memorized payee list, select the two‑dot icon and choose Delete. Existing transactions stay as they are.

Set QuickFill preferences

  1. Select Edit > Preferences, then open Data Entry and QuickFill.

  2. Turn Automatically create rule when I edit a transaction on or off.

  3. Turn Complete fields using previous entries on or off.

  4. Select OK.

Accessibility and register layout

QuickFill suggestions appear correctly in Large fonts view and in both one‑line and two‑line register layouts. No extra setup is needed.
