Using Quickfill
This article contains some functionality that is not yet available.
QuickFill rules automatically fill in categories, memos, tags, amounts, and transfer accounts for known payees. This topic starts with the exact steps for using QuickFill in the register, then explains how to manage the rules it creates.
Enter a transaction with QuickFill in the register
When you type in the register, Quicken suggests saved details and shows quick actions in a two‑dot menu.
Select the empty Payee field in the account register.
Begin typing a payee name.
A dropdown list appears with one or more saved rules.
A blue two‑dot icon (︙) at the right edge of the row confirms that a rule is available.
Press ↓ to see other rules (if any), then press Enter to accept one.
The rule fills the Category, Memo, Tag, Amount, or Transfer account fields.
If you want to change or remove the rule before saving, select the blue two‑dot icon and choose Remove rule or another rule from the list.
Review or edit any field and press Enter to save the transaction.
Quicken then asks whether to save your changes to a rule.
Save or update a rule from a transaction
After you change a filled‑in transaction, Quicken displays three choices:
Update existing rule overwrites the current rule.
Save as new rule creates an additional rule for the same payee.
Don’t save these changes leaves all rules unchanged.
Choose the option that matches how you want future transactions completed.
Rename a payee while typing
The two‑dot menu also helps you rename payees without finishing the row.
Start typing a payee and stop when the suggestion list appears.
Select the two‑dot icon in the suggestion list and choose Rename payee.
In the rename pop‑up, edit the name and check Also rename existing transactions to <New Payee> if needed.
Select Rename payee to confirm.
Renaming a payee does not change its QuickFill rule until you save an updated rule in a later step.
View the memorized payee list
The memorized payee list stores every QuickFill rule and its payee.
Select Tools > Memorized Payee List.
Use the Memorized payee list tab to scroll or search for payees.
Select the Renaming rules tab to review name‑change rules.
Use Other settings at the lower right to open Data Entry and QuickFill preferences.
Use the two‑dot action menu
Each row in the list has a two‑dot icon. Select it for quick actions:
Edit opens the QuickFill rule.
Delete removes the payee and all its rules.
Lock Payee prevents any edits to the rule.
You can also right‑click a row to see the same choices.
Edit a QuickFill rule
In the memorized payee list, select the two‑dot icon for a payee and choose Edit.
In QuickFill Rule: Payee, select or clear Save category, memo, tag, amount, or transfer account.
Check Lock rule to prevent changes if you never want Quicken to update this rule automatically.
Select OK to save, Delete rule to remove it, or Cancel to exit.
Advanced rule editor
Some rules open in Edit Memorized Payee and Rules. This window adds:
Type of transaction options (Downloaded, Scheduled, etc.).
A THEN section for Category, Memo, Tag, and Amount.
Match transactions in dialog to prompt before the rule runs.
Optional checkboxes to lock the rule or show it in the Calendar list.
Delete a payee or a rule
Delete QuickFill rule: In the QuickFill Rule window, select Delete rule. Quicken confirms the action and keeps existing transactions unchanged.
Delete memorized payee: In the memorized payee list, select the two‑dot icon and choose Delete. Existing transactions stay as they are.
Set QuickFill preferences
Select Edit > Preferences, then open Data Entry and QuickFill.
Turn Automatically create rule when I edit a transaction on or off.
Turn Complete fields using previous entries on or off.
Select OK.
Accessibility and register layout
QuickFill suggestions appear correctly in Large fonts view and in both one‑line and two‑line register layouts. No extra setup is needed.
