How do I set up Quicken to use multiple currencies?

Turn on multi-currency support if you plan to work with more than one currency in Quicken.

If at any time you no longer need multi-currency support, you can disable it from the same location where you turned it on.

  1. Choose Edit menu → Preferences.
Note: In Quicken Classic for Windows Canada, multi-currency support is always on. The Calendar and currency preference does not include an option to turn it off.

  2. In the left pane, select Calendar and currency.

  3. In the right pane, select Multi currency support.

  4. Click OK.
Quicken assigns your default, or home, currency to all your accounts and investments (this can take a few minutes). You'll notice that the symbol for your default currency has been added to monetary amounts in your register, the Portfolio View window, and elsewhere.

Notes

  • To view your default (home) currency

Click the Windows Start menu > Settings > Control Panel, then double-click Regional Settings. The location shown in the Regional Settings tab determines your default currency. Click the Currency tab to see examples of how amounts in this currency are represented.

Quicken refers to your default currency as your home currency.

  • To disable multi-currency support

Follow the steps described above, but for step 3 clear the check box instead of selecting it.

You can only disable multi-currency support after deleting all foreign accounts and securities. If you believe you've done so, check for hidden accounts and securities in a foreign currency, and delete them as well.
