Keep the amount from changing in QuickFill

By default, QuickFill updates a memorized payee’s amount based on your most recent transaction. If you want the amount to stay the same—such as always entering $40 for an ATM withdrawal or $75 for lawn service—you can lock the payee in the Memorized Payee List.

Why lock a memorized payee?

Locking prevents Quicken from updating the saved amount when you record a different one. You can still adjust the amount while entering a transaction, but the saved version stays the same.

For example, suppose you memorize an ATM Withdrawal for $40 and lock it. QuickFill will always recall that $40. If you change it to $60 one time, the memorized payee still keeps the original $40.

How to lock a QuickFill transaction

Option 1: Use right-click to lock

  1. Choose Tools > Memorized Payee List.

  2. Right-click the payee you want to lock.

  3. Select Lock from the menu.

This is the quickest and most reliable way, even if the Lock column is hidden.

Option 2: Use the Lock column (if visible)

  1. Choose Tools > Memorized Payee List.

  2. If you see a Lock column, click the lock icon for the payee you want to lock.

  3. If you don’t see the column:

    • Click the column settings icon (three stacked lines in the upper right).

    • Check Lock under Column Visibility.

What happens next?

When you reuse a locked payee, Quicken fills in the original saved amount. Changing the amount in the transaction register does not update the memorized payee.
