Why is the Cash Amt column for an investment transaction N/A or blank?
The Cash Amt column will be blank or N/A if the transaction is either a BoughtX or a placeholder entry.
- In a BoughtX transaction, you transfer cash from another account and use it to purchase securities that are held in the current account. This type of transaction does not impact the cash balance of the current account.
- Placeholder entries don't change your cash balance because they only record your position (number of shares owned) for a specific security.
- The overall cash balance of an investment account (Cash Bal column) will not change as you resolve placeholder entries.
Example of a placeholder entry with no Cash Amt.
Troubleshooting
If Cash Amt is missing for any type of entry other than BoughtX or a placeholder, review the transaction and be sure you have specified the Share Bal and Inv. Amt. If you have not, edit the entry to correct this issue.
BoughtX
BoughtX is the purchase of a security with cash transferred from another account. This type of transaction does not impact the cash balance of the current account.
Placeholder entry
Quicken enters a Placeholder Entry if you're missing part of your transaction history. For any given security, if the total number of shares bought or added in your transaction list doesn't equal the number of shares in your account, then Quicken enters a placeholder entry to make up the difference. Placeholder entries are shown in the Placeholder Entries section under the investment register of the account.
