What if my investment account and my checking account are linked? Can I delete just one?
In Quicken, some investment accounts are linked to a checking account to separately track cash activity. If you want to delete either account, you must first unlink them. Once linked, these accounts behave as a unit—removing one requires removing the link first.
Why you might need to unlink accounts
You want to delete or archive the checking account but retain the investment account.
For example, you may want to clean up your Account List by removing unused checking registers. You want to simplify your investment tracking by keeping all cash activity within the investment account.
Some users prefer a single view of activity instead of a separate linked register.
How to unlink a checking account from an investment account
Choose Tools > Account List.
Click Edit next to the investment account.
In the Account Details window, under the General tab, find Show cash in a checking account.
Select No.
Click OK.
Once the accounts are unlinked, you can delete the checking or investment account individually if needed.
Note: You can't change this setting if the investment account has online services active. You’ll need to deactivate downloads first.
