Tell us about this account
After you connect to your bank or choose to add an offline account, Quicken asks you to review the details of each account before completing setup.
What to expect on this screen
Quicken shows the account name, account type, and other identifying information. You can confirm or edit the name, assign the account to a group, and decide whether to include it in your account list.
This screen appears for each account you add.
Choosing an account name
Quicken provides a default name based on the information it receives from your financial institution or the account type you've chosen. You can keep this name or change it to something more meaningful.
Here are some tips to help you choose a helpful account name:
Be specific: If you have more than one account of the same type, include identifying details such as the last four digits of the account number (for example, Chase Checking 4921).
Use consistent naming: Apply a consistent format across your accounts. For example, use "Bank Name + Type + Last 4" for all checking and savings accounts.
Avoid vague labels: Don’t name an account just “Savings” or “Visa.” Add context to distinguish it (for example, Ally Emergency Savings or Citi Visa Rewards).
Reflect the account’s purpose: For internal tracking, include the use of the account—Business Checking, Travel Fund, or Rental Property Income.
For offline accounts, enter a name that clearly reflects the asset or account you’re tracking, such as Undeposited Funds or Cash on Hand.
Avoid Certain Characters: To ensure compatibility with Quicken's system, do not use the following characters in your account name:
[ ] / : | ^
You can change an account name later by right-clicking the account in the Account Bar and selecting Edit Account Details.
Additional options on this screen
Depending on the account type and connection method, you may also see:
Account type: Usually assigned automatically for connected accounts. For offline accounts, you may need to confirm the correct type.
Show in account bar: If selected, the account appears in your sidebar. Deselect it to keep the account hidden.
Exclude from Quicken reports and features: Use this if you want to track the account but not include it in reports, budgets, or net worth.
