How much should you pay each month?

If you're not sure what your monthly payment should be, there are some tools in Quicken that can help.

  • Click the Spending tab to see where your money is going each month. Look for opportunities to trim your spending and apply that money towards your debt.
  • Choose Reports menu > Reports & Graphs Center, then take a look at reports like Income vs. Expense and Spending by Category. Again, look for ways you can cut back and add that money to your debt payment each month.
  • Click the Planning tab, and then click the Budgets button to create a budget. While creating your budget you can review all your spending and take a hard look at the areas where you could cut back and use that money to pay down your debt.

We suggest you do your homework up front and come up with some realistic, achievable goals. However, if your situation changes or if you find out that your initial estimates were off, you can change your debt reduction plan at any time.
