About your three register balance amounts

Depending on several factors (such as whether or not you've enabled online account access or use scheduled bills/deposits or postdated checks), your account register can show up to three different balances:

Type

What it means

Ending balance

The ending balance is the balance of all transactions entered in the account register, including future-dated transactions such as postdated checks and online payments that have been sent but not yet processed.

Current balance

The current balance is the balance of all transactions entered as of today.

Online balance

The balance of your account according to your financial institution, as of your last online update.

This amount will be different than the Current or Ending balance in Quicken if:

  • You have manually entered transactions in your Quicken register that have not yet been cleared by your financial institution.

  • Your financial institution has pending transactions listed for your account. This is because pending transactions are ignored by Quicken until they are cleared by your financial institution.

Adjusting the Online Balance if you use Pending Transactions

For connected accounts, the online balance does not typically include pending transactions because the bank does not include them in the Online Balance. For example, if you currently have $5,000 in your account and there is a pending transaction for $4,000, your Online Balance should be $5,000 (not $1,000). If your balance includes pending transactions, you can adjust it to prevent this from happening.

  1. Select the Info icon next to Online Balance at the bottom of the register for an individual account (not All Transactions).

  2. Select Exclude pending.

  3. Select Save.

  4. On the Adjust Online Balance screen, select Update.
