Organizing the Sidebar

You can arrange the Sidebar so the accounts you use most are easy to find. Reordering, renaming, and hiding accounts helps you match the Sidebar layout to how you manage your finances.

Understand account groups

Accounts are grouped automatically by type, such as Checking, Savings, Credit Card, Brokerage, and Retirement. You can reorder accounts within their own group, but not between groups. For example, you can move High Yield Savings above Family Savings, but you can’t move it into Credit Card.

Reorder accounts within a group

You can change the order of accounts using drag and drop or the shortcut menu.

Drag and drop

Click an account name and drag it up or down within its group. Release the mouse when the highlight shows the new position.

Use the shortcut menu

Right-click (or Control-click) an account name, then choose Move Up or Move Down. Each click moves the account one position at a time.

Rename an account

You can rename an account directly in the Sidebar. Click once on the name of a selected (highlighted) account, type the new name, and press Return. The change updates everywhere the account name appears.

Hide or separate accounts

Use these options to simplify your Sidebar and focus on what’s active:

  • Hide… removes the account from view without deleting it. You can unhide it later from settings.

  • Keep Separate moves the account to the Separate section. Separate accounts are excluded from reports and net worth totals by default, but you can include them in a report by editing the report and selecting those accounts.

Examples of why you might reorganize

  • Move High Yield Savings above other savings accounts to monitor transfers easily.

  • Group everyday checking and credit card accounts near the top for faster reconciliation.

  • Keep a business or reimbursement account in the Separate section to avoid mixing personal and work balances.

  • Hide a seasonal Vacation Fund account and unhide it when you start saving again.

Tips for staying organized

  • Collapse groups you don’t use often.

  • Use clear names, such as Family Fund instead of Savings 2.

  • Review your Sidebar a few times a year to keep it aligned with your current priorities.
