Tell me about the difference between a version, an upgrade and an update

Quicken periodically checks for free updates when you use Quicken Cloud services. If an update is available, you’ll be prompted to download it.

Understanding versions, upgrades, and updates

The terms version, upgrade, and update have specific meanings in Quicken Classic for Mac.

  • Version – A version is the number assigned to a specific release or update of Quicken. It indicates a particular state of the software, including feature additions, fixes, and performance improvements. You can check your version number by selecting Quicken > About Quicken from the menu bar.

  • Tier – A tier refers to a specific subscription level within Quicken Classic for Mac, each offering different features. For example:

    • Quicken Classic Starter – Basic tools for managing personal finances.

    • Quicken Classic Deluxe – Adds budgeting, investment tracking, and more.

    • Quicken Classic Premier – Includes advanced investing tools, priority support, and additional features.

    • Quicken Classic Business & Personal – Offers all features, including business tracking and rental property management.

  • Upgrade – An upgrade occurs when you move from a lower-tier plan to a higher-tier plan with more features. For example, upgrading from Quicken Classic Deluxe to Quicken Classic Premier. If you have an active subscription, you can upgrade at any time by visiting Quicken.com.

  • Update – An update, also called a release or patch, is a free revision to the software. Updates fix bugs, improve performance, and may introduce new features.
