How do I update mileage rates?

The IRS updates its standard mileage rates regularly, usually once per year. To ensure you're using the correct rate for deductible travel, you can review the rate history used in the Vehicle Mileage Tracker.

Quicken displays the mileage rates by trip type and effective date. These rates are used to calculate reimbursement amounts and tax-deductible mileage totals.

View mileage rates

  1. Go to the Business tab.

  2. Select Business Tools, then choose Mileage Tracker.

  3. In the Vehicle Mileage window, select Rates (bottom right).

The Tax-Deductible Mileage Rates per IRS window opens. You can:

  • View historical and current mileage rates

  • See each rate's effective date

  • Review the applicable trip type, such as Business – Schedule C

Quicken applies the mileage rate that matches the date of the trip. You cannot change the rate directly from a trip entry.

Get IRS rate updates

  1. Go to the Tools menu and select One Step Update.

  2. If Quicken includes updated mileage rate data, the new rates will appear in the rate list.

IRS mileage rates are typically announced in the fourth quarter of the year (October through December) for the following calendar year. Quicken always updates the rates before the start of a new year. If no automatic update is available, you can refer to the current IRS rates at IRS.gov or consult your tax professional.
