There might be instances when the Quicken security name does not match the security name that was downloaded from your financial institution. When quicken finds a difference in security names, you will see the Was the security renamed? dialog.
You can use the following methods to resolve renamed securities:
- It was renamed. Update Quicken with the new name for me.
Select this option if you want Quicken to update the security name for you. Quicken updates the security name to match the security name that was downloaded from your financial institution. This resolves the security name mismatch.
- It was renamed, but I will update it myself.
Select this option if you want to update the security name manually. Quicken does not update the security name for you. To resolve the security name mismatch, you must update the security name. For more information, see Manage securities.
When you select this option, this security name mismatch is resolved only for the current session. If you do not update the Quicken security name to match the security name from your financial institution, you will be prompted to resolve the security name mismatch again the next time you sync, refresh, or compare to portfolio.
- This is not a rename/these are not the same securities.
Select this option if the securities listed are different securities and it is not a security name mismatch.
When you select this option, this security name mismatch is resolved only for the current session. If you do not match securities, which means that the Quicken security name still does not match the security name from your financial institution, you will be prompted to resolve the security name mismatch again the next time you sync, refresh, or compare to portfolio.
- I don't know. Don't do anything.
Select this option if you are not sure about the security names listed. Quicken does not update the security name for you.
When you select this option, this security name mismatch is resolved only for the current session. If you do not match securities, which means that the Quicken security name still does not match the security name from your financial institution, you will be prompted to resolve the security name mismatch again the next time you sync, refresh, or compare to portfolio.
- Click OK.
- Repeat this process for all securities names that do not match.
Let's take an example scenario where an existing security named AnySecurity is renamed to NewSecurity.
After the name change, your Financial Institution reports the total number of shares using the new name (NewSecurity) but your Quicken transactions still use the old name (AnySecurity). When the total number of shares in Quicken are compared with the number of shares reported by your Financial Institution, Quicken reports a share balance mismatch because you now appear to have more shares of AnySecurity and less of NewSecurity.
To resolve this discrepancy, Quicken displays the Was the security renamed? dialog.
If you select the Update Quicken with the new name for me option, Quicken will update the old security name in your Quicken file to match the new security name that was downloaded from your financial institution.
In this example, Quicken will update AnySecurity to NewSecurity. This resolves the security name mismatch.
