How do I rename a budget?

Renaming a budget in Quicken Classic for Windows can help keep your financial planning organized, especially when managing multiple budgets across different time periods or purposes. A clear, specific name makes it easier to locate and reference a budget later.

Reasons to rename a budget

Updating a budget name is useful when the budget's purpose, timeframe, or context has changed. It also helps avoid confusion when viewing reports or switching between active and archived plans.

When you might rename a budget

  • To indicate the year or time period it covers (e.g., 2024 Household Budget)

  • To mark it as archived or inactive

  • To clarify its purpose (e.g., Home Renovation Budget or Side Business)

  • To reflect updates made to the structure or categories of the budget

When you might keep the current name

  • You're using the same structure and purpose long-term

  • You want naming consistency for saved reports or exports

  • You’ve documented the name in external tools or shared files
