Track a budget or savings goal snapshot
In Quicken Classic for Windows, you can monitor your budget or savings goals directly from the Home tab using customizable snapshot views. These visual summaries are part of the Main View (not the newer Dashboard view) and let you track progress without opening the full Planning or Savings Goal sections.
Note: You can rename the Main View by editing the View Name field in the Customize View window. Be aware that this name will then appear on the Home tab, replacing “Main View” in the interface.
Why use snapshots?
Snapshots provide a quick, at-a-glance way to monitor your progress toward key financial goals. Adding a budget or savings goal snapshot to the Home tab helps you:
Stay aware of your monthly spending limits
See how close you are to reaching your savings goals
Avoid unnecessary clicks to open full planning tools
How to add a budget or savings goal snapshot
To add a snapshot, you must first switch to Main View within the Home tab. Snapshots can't be added or customized from the Dashboard.
Go to the Home tab, then select Main View from the dropdown at the top of the window.
In the upper right corner of the Main View, select the gear icon to open Customize View.
In the Customize View window, scroll through the list of Available Items under the Planning section.
Select Budget or Savings Goal Progress.
Select Add to move the item to the right side under Selected Items.
Use the Move Up/Down buttons to change the display order, if needed.
Select OK to apply your changes.
The selected snapshot(s) will now appear on your Home tab Main View.
How to adjust snapshot settings
You can change which budget or savings goal is shown in a snapshot, or modify how information is displayed.
In the Home tab, find the snapshot you want to edit.
Select Options in the upper-right corner of the snapshot.
Choose the budget, goal, or display preferences as needed.
How to view multiple budgets or savings goals
To compare multiple budgets or track more than one savings goal, you can add multiple instances of the same snapshot type.
If you track more than one budget or savings goal, you can display multiple snapshots by adding them individually in the Customize View window. Quicken only displays one budget or one savings goal at a time in each snapshot. However, you can:
Add more than one Budget snapshot to track different budgets (e.g., personal and household)
Add more than one Savings Goal Progress snapshot to monitor separate goals
To do this, return to Customize View, add another instance of the Budget or Savings Goal Progress item, and save your changes. Each snapshot can be set to display a different budget or goal using the Options menu in the upper-right corner of each widget.
Note: These features are only available in the Main View layout under the Home tab. They are not part of the Dashboard interface.
