Prepare a printer to print a report or graph

You can configure a printer specifically for printing reports, graphs, and budget spreadsheets. Quicken saves your printer setup—including font, margins, and paper layout—and uses those settings automatically whenever you print.

Why prepare the printer?

Here are a few reasons to set up your printer for reports:

  • You consistently use a specific printer and want all reports to print with the same margin, font, and orientation.

  • You need to adjust the font size or paper layout so reports are more readable or fit on fewer pages.

  • You want to avoid clipped reports by ensuring your printer’s margin requirements are met.

Set up a printer for reports and graphs

Follow these steps to configure your printer settings:

  1. Choose File > Printer Setup > For Reports/Graphs.

  2. In the Printer list, select the printer you want to use.

  3. Enter your preferred Left, Right, Top, and Bottom margin values.

    • Most printers require margins of at least 0.25 inches.

    • Some printers—such as HP DeskJet—may require a bottom margin of 0.67 inches.

    • If you print in landscape mode, the bottom margin becomes the right margin.

  4. Click Heading Font or Body Font to adjust the font used in report headings and body text.

    • For best results, use the Regular style with a font size between 9 and 12.

  5. Click Settings to change the paper size, page orientation, or print resolution.

Your changes apply to all future reports, graphs, and budget printouts unless you override them in the Print dialog.

What if I want to change the settings for a single report?

Use the Print dialog when you're printing a specific report. Adjusting settings there overrides the global printer setup for that one report only.

What if I want to prepare the printer for printing checks?

Use a different setup dialog. Quicken provides separate printer setup options for check printing, which you can access under File > Printer Setup > For Printing Checks.
