To enter estimated tax payments, go to the Estimated Tax Payments page of the Tax Planner. Click the Planning tab, click Tax Center, choose Tax Tools, and then choose Tax Planner. From the Tax Planner Summary, do one of the following:
-
In the Tax Due section, click Est. Tax Pmts.
-
In the list on the left, click Tax Payments.
-
In the Estimated Taxes (1040-ES) Paid to Date field, enter any estimated tax payments you've already made this year. These are typically made quarterly.
-
In the Planned Future Estimated Tax Payments field, enter any estimated tax payments you plan to make by the end of the year.
-
In the Refund Applied from Prior Year Federal Tax Return field, enter any prior-year refund you applied to this year's taxes.
-
In the Total Estimated Tax Payments and Refunds Applied field, verify the total. Quicken calculates this field automatically.
-
Review the red total below. It reads Remaining Tax Due when your projected tax exceeds your payments, and Refund Due when your payments exceed your projected tax. The same total appears in the Tax Due section of the Tax Planner Summary.
-
Review the Suggested Estimated Tax Payments section, which lists the four quarterly due dates for the tax year and the amount suggested for each. Select already paid/planned for any quarter you've paid or plan to pay. This section appears below the red total, so you may need to scroll down or enlarge the Tax Planner window to see it.
Where the amounts come from
Each amount on this page has a data source. Click a field name and then click Show Details to see the data source for that field. The details panel shows one field at a time.
You can select User Entered and supply the amount yourself, or select Quicken Data to use your transaction data for the year. When you type an amount directly into a field on the Estimated Tax Payments page, Quicken sets that field's data source to User Entered and records the amount in the Annual Total column.
To see which tax form line items feed a field, click View tax form line items used here in the details panel.
