Data entry and QuickFill preferences

You can customize how transactions are filled in and how memorized payees behave using the Data entry and QuickFill preferences.

Open the preferences

To view or change these settings:

  1. Choose the Edit menu > Preferences.

  2. In the left pane, select Data entry and QuickFill.

The right pane displays the available settings.

Data entry behavior

These settings control how you move between fields and how values are auto-filled.

Use enter key to move between fields

Lets you use the Enter key, in addition to Tab, to move between fields in the register and the Write Checks window.

Complete fields using previous entries

Fills in register fields automatically using data from past transactions. Applies to fields such as:

  • Num

  • Payee

  • Category and Subcategory

  • Tag

  • Security name

  • Action

  • Transfer account

If this setting is turned off, Recall memorized payees is also disabled.

Recall memorized payees

Fills in fields with saved transaction details from the Memorized Payee List when you leave the Payee field.

If this setting is turned off, Complete fields using previous entries is also disabled.

QuickFill display options

These preferences adjust how suggestions appear in the register.

Automatically open drop-down lists in QuickFill fields

Displays a list of suggestions automatically when a field is selected.

Show buttons on QuickFill fields

Adds a drop-down button to each field, so you can manually view suggestions without them appearing automatically.

Capitalize payees and categories

Automatically capitalizes names and categories as you type.

Memorized payee preferences

These settings affect how payees are saved and reused.

Automatically memorize new payees

Creates an entry in the Memorized Payee List every time you enter a new payee (except for investment transactions). This entry is then used to match future downloaded transactions.

Automatically include on Calendar payee list

Adds new memorized payees to the Financial Calendar, so you can easily create bill reminders.

Add Address Book QuickFill items to Memorized Payee List

Includes payees from the Address Book in the Memorized Payee List if both of these are selected:

  • Add Address Book QuickFill items (this setting)

  • Include this payee in QuickFill list (in the Edit Address Book Record dialog)

This lets you reuse these names in the register, the Write Checks window, or when creating reminders.

Remove memorized payees not used in last [X] months

Deletes unlocked memorized payees that haven’t been used in the specified number of months. This helps keep the list manageable.

Save your changes

Click OK to save your settings.
