Using the Mileage tab
Welcome to the Mileage tab of the Quicken for Mac Business & Personal (B&P) tier, where the open road meets the ledger. Designed with both the professional and personal user in mind, this dashboard allows you to keep an organized record of your miles traveled, ensuring you're on top of every penny that comes in and goes out due to travel. Whether you're meeting a client downtown or making a personal donation across town, tracking every mile has never been this simple and efficient.
Column descriptions
Date: This column keeps a chronological record of your trips. Each entry ensures you know exactly when those miles were covered.
Type: Here, you can classify your trip as either Personal or Business. It's a simple distinction, but it's vital for accurate accounting and for keeping a clear divide between your professional endeavors and personal errands.
Purpose: A brief reason for your journey. Whether it's for a Charity cause or a Client Meeting, this space provides context to your trips, helping you remember why you hit the road that day.
Miles: It's all about the distance. This column records the number of miles you've traveled. No journey is too short or too long to be noted.
Business: Here you see the business this trip was for. You may have just one business or several. This lets you track each business separately. This space lets you hone in on the exact nature of your business venture.
Notes: Sometimes, a few words are all you need. This space is for those additional details about your trip that don't fit anywhere else. Maybe you discussed design elements, or perhaps you interviewed someone for a story. It's your chance to describe the trip. Your memory will thank you later.
Estimated Deduction: Based on the miles you've traveled, this column estimates potential deductions. It's where the rubber meets the dollar, ensuring you're making the most of your travels, financially speaking. B&P tracks the mileage amount allowed for each type of trip.
Action: Your command center. Here, you can Edit, Delete, or even Duplicate an entry. It ensures you have full control over your recorded trips, allowing for adjustments as and when needed.
Additional usage details
- To see mileage rates, click the three-dot menu and select Mileage Rates. You can see rates for Business, Charity, and Medical.
- To export your mileage entries to a CVS file, click the three-dot menu and select Export to CVS.
On the top right, you can see a concise summary showcasing the total number of trips, combined mileage, and the cumulative estimated deductions. It's a quick snapshot to gauge your travels.
The search bar, positioned conveniently at the top, allows for fast retrieval of specific entries.
For new journeys, the + New Trip button at the top left is your starting point. Click, fill, and you're on your way to maintaining a comprehensive log.
- You can filter the number of mileage entries by Date. You can view Year to Date, Month to Date, or Quarter to Date.
- You can use the check box for Show Personal if you want to view both business and personal trips.
