Transfer your Quicken data to a new Mac
When you get a new Mac, you can bring your Quicken data with you in just a few steps. The easiest method is to use Apple's Migration Assistant when you first set up your new computer. If you've already set up your new Mac, you can transfer your data manually.
Option 1: Use Migration Assistant (recommended)
Migration Assistant automatically transfers your Quicken data and app settings to your new Mac. We recommend this method because it moves everything for you with no extra setup required.
When setting up your new Mac, open Migration Assistant (found in Applications > Utilities)
Follow the onscreen instructions to transfer data from your old Mac
After setup completes, open Quicken on your new Mac—your data file should open automatically
Note: Migration Assistant transfers your data file, backups, and preferences automatically.
Option 2: Transfer your Quicken data manually
If you've already set up your new Mac, you can move your Quicken data yourself.
Step 1: Install Quicken on your new Mac
On your new Mac, download and install the latest version of Quicken:
https://download.quicken.com/mac/Quicken.dmgOpen Quicken once installation completes, then quit the application
(This creates the necessary folders on your new Mac)
Step 2: Locate and transfer your Quicken data file
Open Quicken on your old Mac
Choose File > Show "[yourfilename].quicken" in Finder
Copy this file (it ends with .quicken) to your new Mac using one of these methods:
AirDrop
USB drive
iCloud Drive
On your new Mac, double-click the copied file to open it in Quicken
Note: This is your main Quicken data file. Opening it in Quicken confirms your data transferred successfully.
Step 3 (optional): Copy additional Quicken support folders
You can also move your Quicken support folders, which contain backups and other support files.
On your old Mac, open Finder and press Shift-Command-G to open "Go to Folder"
Enter this path:
~/Library/Application Support/QuickenCopy these folders to the same location on your new Mac:
Documents folder: Contains your default Quicken file
Backups folder: Contains automatic and manual backup files
Other folders: Optional (logs, cached images)
Note: You only need to copy these folders if you want your backups or support data on the new Mac.
After transferring
Once you've completed the transfer:
Open Quicken on your new Mac
Verify your accounts, transactions, and reports appear correctly
Update your preferences as needed in Quicken > Settings
Troubleshooting
If your data doesn't appear after transferring:
Make sure you copied the file ending in .quicken (not .quickenbackup)
Check that Quicken is up to date on both computers
Try opening the file by choosing File > Open in Quicken and browsing to your data file
