Opening data files

When you launch Quicken, it automatically opens the last file you used. If you work with multiple files, you may need to switch between them. Quicken allows only one file to be open at a time.

Open a different data file

If you want to open a different file, follow these steps:

  1. In Quicken, select FileOpen...

  2. Browse to the location of the file, select it, and then click Open.

  3. If the file is password-protected, enter the password and click OK.

Open a recently used file

Quicken keeps a list of recently opened files for quick access. If you want to open a recent file, follow these steps:

  1. In Quicken, select FileOpen Recent.

  2. Choose a file from the list.

  3. If the file is password-protected, enter the password and click OK.

Open a file from Finder

You can open a Quicken for Mac file directly from Finder with or without launching Quicken first.

  1. Open Finder.

  2. Navigate to the location where your Quicken file is stored. By default, Quicken files are saved in DocumentsQuicken, but your file may be stored elsewhere.

  3. Look for a file with the .quicken extension.

  4. Double-click the file. Quicken will launch automatically and open the selected file.

Tip: If you frequently switch between files, you can create a shortcut by dragging the file to the Dock or Desktop for quick access.

Note: If Quicken is already running, it will close the current file before opening the new one.
