Choose whether to connect Quicken to the internet
Quicken gives you the option to connect to the internet during setup. This allows the program to automatically download information for your accounts, securities, and software—helping you save time and reduce manual data entry.
What happens if you connect
If you choose Connect Now, Quicken can:
Download names and prices for securities you add
Retrieve account information from supported financial institutions
Help identify financial institutions for online setup
Assign categories to downloaded transactions
Check for and install product updates
Retrieve other financial data such as asset classes or investment research
This option is recommended for most people, especially if you plan to connect your accounts online or track investments with current market values.
To continue, select Connect Now, then click Next.
What happens if you don’t connect
If you choose Don't connect, Quicken won’t access the internet during setup. You can still use all of Quicken’s core features, but you’ll need to manage your data manually. This includes:
Manually entering or importing transactions
Entering account details and balances by hand
Adding securities and prices manually if you're tracking investments
Updating categories and other data yourself
You can connect to the internet later at any time by setting up account downloads, enabling price updates, or checking for software updates.
To continue without connecting, select Don't connect, then click Next.
Benefits of connecting
Even if you don’t plan to use all online features, connecting Quicken to the internet allows you to:
Download transactions from banks, credit cards, loans, and brokerages
Automatically categorize spending
Pay bills online (with participating banks)
Track real-time investment performance
Keep Quicken up to date with the latest software improvements
You remain in control of what’s downloaded and when. Most online services are optional and can be enabled or disabled as needed.
