About Reports
The reporting features in Quicken for the Web offer a comprehensive view of your finances, with various report types that allow you to track your spending, net income, and income versus expenses. You can customize these reports to see data that is relevant to you by adjusting the date range, breakdown categories, and applying filters. Below, you will find a detailed guide on the different types of reports available, including Spending, Net Income, and Income vs. Expense, and how to utilize the various customization options.
Accessing Reports
To access reports, navigate to the Reports button on the left sidebar. From the dropdown menu, you can choose from Spending, Net Income, and Income vs. Expense reports. Each report provides insights into different aspects of your financial activity.
Spending Report
The Spending Report allows you to visualize your spending habits through several different views. You can choose to view your spending data by Category, Payee, or select None for a list view. Here are the available views in more detail:
Spending by Category
The Spending by Category view shows your spending across different categories, represented as a pie chart. This report helps you understand what proportion of your budget is spent on different types of expenses, such as Shopping, Auto & Transport, and other categories.
To see the transactions linked to a specific category, select a segment of the pie chart. This action will open the list of transactions for that category below the chart.
Spending by Payee
The Spending by Payee view shows a breakdown of your spending across individual payees. This can help you track how much money has been spent at specific locations or vendors. Selecting a payee in this chart will display the corresponding transactions in the list below the chart.
Breakdown Menu for Spending
The Breakdown Menu for the Spending report allows you to customize how your spending is grouped. You can choose between By Category or By Payee to see either a categorical breakdown of your expenses or an itemized breakdown by payee. If neither is selected, the spending is presented in a list view.
Spending Over Time
The Spending Over Time view provides a bar chart that tracks your spending over the past several months. You can see changes in your spending patterns, which can help you identify trends. Hovering over a bar will show the exact spending for that month, and clicking on the bar will display the transaction activity for that month in the list below the chart.
Net Income Report
The Net Income Report gives you an overview of your income minus expenses over a given period. This report helps you determine whether you are in a surplus or deficit for the selected time frame. The Net Income chart displays income in green and expenses in red, helping you easily visualize your financial standing.
You can also change the Date Range of the report to focus on specific months, the current year, last year, or even define a custom period. The Transaction Activity list below the chart will show you the detailed income and expense transactions for the selected period.
Income vs. Expense Report
The Income vs. Expense Report provides a direct comparison of your income versus expenses over time. It uses bar charts to illustrate each month's income and expenses, which can help you understand your cash flow.
Just like the other reports, you can adjust the Date Range to get a better understanding of your financial activity over different time periods. The transactions are displayed below the chart to help you dig into the specifics of your income or expenses.
Customization Options for Reports
Filters
You can further refine your reports using Filters. The filter options are available in each report, allowing you to specify categories, payees, tags, accounts, or even advanced filters. This makes it easy to focus on specific areas of your finances, such as filtering only business-related expenses or focusing on a particular account.
To use filters, select Filters and choose the parameters that you want to apply. You can always reset the filters if you need to start over.
Date Range
Adjusting the Date Range helps you focus on the period you’re interested in. Available options include Last 3 months, Last 6 months, This year, Last year, and Custom. This flexibility allows you to see the big picture or focus on recent activity.
Exporting Reports
You can export your reports in various formats for sharing or further analysis. Click on the Export button, and choose your preferred format: Excel (.xlsx), CSV (.csv), or PDF (.pdf). This feature is particularly useful if you need to share your financial data with an accountant or simply want to keep records offline.
Transaction Activity
For each report, the Transaction Activity list below the chart provides detailed information about individual transactions. By clicking on different elements of the chart, you can filter the transactions displayed in this section, making it easy to dive deeper into the data.
Using these reports effectively will help you understand your spending patterns, track your income and expenses, and ultimately gain better control over your finances. Adjust the filters and breakdown options to get the most relevant insights from your data.
